Puppies escape with the frog.

This is Dunedin’s painting of puppies escaping with a frog. All of the orange dots, she informed me, are puppies. They are all running to the back yard with the frog. There is obviously a back story.

There is one thing that Dunedin really, really wants for Christmas. A dog. She has been told that because of Mamas allergies there will be no dog. She has subsequently run through all of the animals she can think of throughout the last weeks to see if they would be a better choice.
The conversations go something like this:
“What about a camel? Do they have hair or fur?”
“Um, I don’t know, but a camel wont work because there is a problem with them getting stuck in doorways after they squeeze the first hump through.”
“oh”
“what about a screech owl? They don’t have fur!”
“yes, but they would keep us up at night”
“An alligator doesn’t have fur!!!”
“I think they have been known to eat neighborhood cats.”
“Does an elephant have hair?”
“I think I am not allergic to elephants but they wouldn’t fit in your bedroom, and besides, they would likely eat all of your applesauce.” (as this is her favorite food there is no further discussion)
Some time passes. Then one day from the back of the car I hear:
“I know! How ’bout a Frog?!! They have skin not fur and no feathers. They are small enough to fit in our house. And they only eat flies.”
“uh…”

How cameras are like carrots

I had heard this might happen.
What to do about a child who wont look at the camera.
Dunedin will no longer look at my camera. What am I to do? She will even turn her back to it. (GASP!!!) This is a devastating blow to this photographer who loves taking her work home with her. I find so much happiness documenting my children and life from behind this big piece of glass.
The problem is she knows all my tricks and she doesn’t find them nearly as entertaining as she used to.
I think I shall approach this as I did the eating of carrots. She hated them. Wouldn’t look at them, would get upset if they were on the menu and attempt to toss them off her plate. But sure enough, they would be in meal after meal, in some form or another. In soup, pureed, raw, sliced, julienne, grated, baked, broiled, stir fried… Now she eats them raw and prefers baby ones from the CSA. She actually asked for some over chocolate milk once.
So this camera is definitely not going away. It is far more important than carrots. Who runs back into a burning building for carrots? (Yes, I might just run back for my camera.) My husband ran into a burning building once. But it wasn’t for a camera or carrots. You will have to ask him about this some time. I am getting sidetracked.
So I am looking for new tricks. This camera will be out and about with me. Perhaps I will have to build a child blind (like the bird blinds used by nature photographers) The neighbors might find that a bit creepy.
I will have to keep you posted.
Until then, expect to see lots of photos of the back of her head. Good thing she has such cute curls.

Summers past collage.

A draft of a collage I am creating for a large print. These were such fun girls!

I love this girl

I love this little lady. She is mighty spiffy and there is nothing little about her personality. Her parents are pretty rad as well, but I feel more inclined to write about Ms. G at the moment. This is a photo from her 3rd b-day party.

If I remember correctly, 3 years ago she came out with as much personality as evidenced in the previous photo.

Her parents just didn’t know it yet… Don’t they just look blissfully ignorant?

My daughter loves her too.

A lot. A whole big lot. Her words.

In fact, Ms. G is on the top of the list for bribing. As in… “Put your shoes on! Don’t you want to see G next month?” And it works.
But we love her for so many other reasons as well.

Not least of which is that she typically brings her parental entourage with her on visits. We are sad she lives ever so far away.
Happy Birthday Big Girl!
