Wow, This was a great read. I was running out of idea's on how to keep my kids interested in the camera and I, but it seems I hadn't even got started in the "entertaining/photographing" children venture.

Thank you so much!

Hey Zozo's Mom!
First off- thanks! and secondly SWMama rocks- it makes me happy I get to call her friend and that she doesn't charge me to do so ;).
To answer your questions, I have a few first: How old is your daughter? What kind of camera/lens are you using? Are you able to control your exposure and shutter speed? If your daughter is a toddler- I won't use the word control in a question.
The trick is really more in understanding exposure and your equipment. Please don't let anyone tell you you can't photograph dark skin next to light skin. My pale skinned blond cousin was told this would be a problem with her dark skinned Nigerian Husband. If this was the case wedding photography with a bride in white and groom wearing black would not be as successful an industry as it is today. But there are some basic concepts that will help trick the camera that is always going to look for middle grey and give you a better result. I think I will perhaps write a post about it in the next month, because you are not the first person to have asked. You can check in my archives, I have some posts with clients and friends children of various shades of human- most photographed in open shade but not many with the particulars of the making of the photo. Let me know what kind of camera you are working with and I can try to help more...
Cheers, Tobia PS. I look forward to checking out your blog more soon. Thanks for reading!

Thanks C for the plug on your more-than-fantastic blog. I loved your tips on photographing babies- and the photos you catch of F are really great. For anyone interested, C has far better written and way more extensive tips than I about capturing photos of Babies with a Point and Shoot camera from a mom's perspective.... Check her stuff out: http://adjustmentdisorder.wordpress.com/2009/04/15/the-amateurs-guide-to-photographing-babies-part-1/
