And just like that, the dog days of summer have come to an end. We celebrated 2009′s summer’s demise in Vermont with some friends, 2 legged and 4.
Here sits Emmit, proud NYC dog, acting as tough as he can with our “Wildlife” stamping at his heals.

Dunedin spend a good part of this evening asking after her friend Emmit. She would never get this close to a human she had met in just one weekend, but had no problem sidling up to this canine variety.

Zander and Griffin determined to get in on the cuteness. I need to point out that my son (I swell with pride at the thought of this) brought out this chair when he saw us taking photos outside. A son who knows how to please his photographer mommy.

whether you have paws or toes, grass just feels good underneath them

The rare photo of me. Jesse (the photog of this shot below) has no idea how hard it normally is to pry a camera out of my hands, she should ask my husband. He almost lost a finger once.

Griffin, showing off his portrait sitting skills

Griffin, done with the session, cleans up his own props.

dog days end
When left to their own devices
What I have learned about unattended children so far:
- They can be amazingly resourceful- food can be found in the strangest of places.
- The quieter it is, the bigger the clean up task.
- I have a voice that lives deep within that only comes out on special occasions. This voice most often visits the children after unattended moments.
- Fences only hold in children if you latch them, lock them and blockade them. And these measures seem to work better when used for adults.
- When you leave a box of old clothing out (even if it is duct taped shut) children will figure out a way to accessorize.
Here is Griffin. On the wrong side of the fence and quite pleased with himself

Dunedin proving that frogs are, indeed, kissable. Even ones meant for a yard sale.
Sidenote: When children are left unattended to put shoes on, 80% of the time they wind up on the wrong feet. Why is this statistically the case?

oh baby
I love announcement cards. Babies this age make me smile on the inside. Sigh.
I don’t really remember designing Dunedin’s and Griffins announcement card. I do remember that I misspelled something important on her card and had to reorder (I will blame it on lack of sleep not my esteemed public elementary school) And Griffin’s card didn’t even make it to all the people on my list. I found a stack of un-mailed cards almost a year after his birth. It is hard to get things straight when you cant stop staring at the perfect little being you have created.
Not sure which of these cards I like best.
